Dear readers,

What do you eat when you’re under the weather? Christina Eng looks to soup — but not just any soup: Asian soups. This week on Culinate, Christina explores the prominent place soup has on dinner tables in traditional Asian households, and she recounts her own experience eating Hot and Sour Soup, just when she needed it most (imagine Las Vegas with friends, add a sore throat and head cold, and, well, you get the picture).

When I’m feeling sickly, I often crave a big bowlful of Lisa Schroeder’s chicken soup, but it’s a bit of a production to make; in a pinch, Shoshanna Cohen’s Jewish Mother Chicken Soup is a good bet, too. And for a delicious veggie broth, I simply stir a spoonful of Katherine Deumling’s Homemade Veggie Bouillon into a cup of just-boiled water and sip it slowly. It’s absolutely restorative.

But a new recipe on the site, Ken Hom’s Prawn Dumpling Soup, is on my list to try. And if I’m lucky I’ll make it before a virus hits.
