Happy Monday! Join us for tomorrow’s Tap It Tuesday at 6 pm for LIVE: Black Cap Raspberry. This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for 28 months before spending an additional two months on 300+ pounds of Black Cap raspberries: think Nouveau Beaujolais with raspberries. Vinous then sweet aromas of tart raspberries noticed up front. Sharp, acidic notes of tart berries and leather on the palate lead to a sharp, dark berry presence and a finish with a prolonged dry fruit note. This limited draft-only offering is a blender favorite. 6.55% ABV, $7/glass, $3/taster.
If you can’t make it in person but want to check out our Tap It Tuesdays, follow Cascade Brewing Barrel House on Google+. Join the Hangout before with insights from Head Blender Preston Weesner, then watch the tapping broadcast live at 6pm. You can also check out past tappings on our YouTube channel – Cascade Brewing Barrel House.
The Noyaux blend is finalized and will be getting bottled late next week. Look for a very limited release with no distribution near the end of October. The decision on internet sales has not been made yet, we’ll let you know when it has. Kriek 2011 is bottle conditioning and is ready for labels, it will be released in early October. Sadly, Figaro is now just a memory.
In case you’re wondering, the blends are named according to the year the fruit was picked. So although the latest Kriek comes out in 2012, the fruit in the beer was picked in the summer of 2011, therefore we refer to it as Kriek 2011.
We’re now pouring 2012 Autumn IPA, which features piney-resin and citrus hop aromas of Brewer’s Gold, Cascade and Columbus hops, balanced with sweet notes of stacked light to dark caramel malts. This rich malt structure with caramel, chocolate and biscuit flavors blends with the piney-citrusy bitterness across the palate from beginning to end. Also new on tap is Oblique Blond Coffee Beer, featuring a deep gold color and coffee-forward aroma with a blueberry and spice fruited nose. It features a medium body with sweet, warm earthy coffee and chocolate notes and a fruity hop finish. No cream or sugar necessary!
We still have some barrels for sale, mostly Bourbon & a few wine. $30 each, cash only. First come first serve, we will not hold or reserve barrels. These are for water barrels or planters; they are retired barrels that have been sitting outside for a few weeks and are not meant for brewing. Available Wed-Fri this week from 9 to 5 pm. Don’t worry, they haven’t been worn by naked men!
This week’s Barrel House food specials include Crab & Sweet Pea Risotto Cakes ($7), Dungeness crab & sweet pea risotto cakes, pan fried then topped with chive hollandaise; Cuban Panini ($8.5), featuring house-smoked pork, smoked ham, gruyere cheese & dill pickle on a brioche bun dressed with dijonnaise then panini grilled crisp; Smokehouse Chili ($3 cup/$6 bowl), our house specialty featuring rich, meaty smoked pork & beef chili with pinto beans, black beans, tomato & smoked onion, served with sour cream, cheddar cheese & diced yellow onion; and Blueberry Sour Cream Cheese Pie ($3), a graham cracker crust striped with Blueberry Sour Pie Kriek compote, speckled with Oregon blueberries, drizzled with Diesel cherry reduction and served with dark chocolate Kriek ganache.
