“For the Love of Zaatar and Guitars” LA/PDX food duo to host inaugural Pop-Up tasting at AdaZoe’s Opaline’s this Friday May 19th!
On Friday May 19th LA’s golden boy Chef Dave Martinez, formerly of Echo Park’s beloved Elf Cafe and the world renowned Soho House, will be joining forces once again with Portland’s own Alan Torres of the Quarterworld and foodie favorite the Baowry. The two former band mates and long time friends will be hosting a one night only Pop-Up dinner at Opaline’s.
But this isn’t the first time the two famed rockers will be joining forces. Martinez and Torres bond goes back years to times spent together onstage in the dark Punk Rock clubs of Portland and Los Angeles. “It was kinda a natural progression for us to get involved into the world of food and libations” says Dave. “The worlds of rock music and food are so similar. Both are creative, challenging, and sometimes chaotic” he laughs. “But really its about the art, the passion and the performance of it all that reminds me so much of being onstage”. “The best part is that you get the opportunity to throw yourself out there and hopefully make some people’s nights that much better along the way”.
The dinner will feature Chef Dave’s critically acclaimed take on vibrant and lawless veg-centric Middle Eastern cuisine. Martinez was recently named by Zagat as one of the “12 Under-The-Radar Chefs to know in LA” and more recently catapulted Elf Cafe to a “99 essential Restaurants” nod by LA Weekly in March. The 4 course tasting menu will be complimented by Spanish drink pairings helmed by Torres. There might even be some special flamenco surprises in the night here and there. This will also be a prelude to Alan’s return to the Portland food scene with his upcoming Baoser in St. Johns the following week.
The night is gearing up to be one to remember the duo is teaming up for which is to be the first of a series of dinners in Portland and Los Angeles appropriately named “Beet Your Heart Out” . May 19th the two rockers will head to the stage together again to celebrate their wild paths to food and drink and their infatuation with the arts and music. As always, all ages at the door.
